Volunteering is a great way to be a part of The Benevolent Society’s work.

Every year, more than 700 volunteers provide us with invaluable support across all our programs and services. Whether you’re interested in events, administration, fundraising, program support or social visiting, we have opportunities for volunteers with a range of different skills, knowledge and experience.

You'll learn new skills and develop existing ones. With such a variety of volunteering opportunities on offer, there's bound to be something to suit you, and we provide ongoing training, supervision and support for all our volunteers.  Above all, it’s a chance to make a real difference for your local community.

So, if you have spare time and want to put your skills, talents, energy and passion to work in the community with The Benevolent Society, please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page or call the Manager Volunteer Programs on 02 9339 8086.

Valuing our volunteers - the President's Awards

Our annual President’s Awards recognise the extraordinary dedication shown by our volunteers. Congratulations to our 2008 Award recipients: Martin Spiteri, Paula McLean and Nora Kemp and a big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers.

Martin Spiteri

Two days a week you can find Martin Spiteri at our Greenwood Cottage Day Centre in Bexley, preparing lunches, calling the bingo and transporting clients to and from their homes. He has volunteered at the centre since 2005, helping to provide frail older people with companionship and activities. “Our clients are always delighted to see Martin when The Benevolent Society bus arrives to pick them up. He is warm, friendly and they have a real affection for him,” says Maria Poulopoulos, the centre’s coordinator. “His dedication and commitment to The Benevolent Society is simply outstanding.”
