Our Personal Helpers and Mentors Program is an outreach service that provides opportunities for recovery for people who are experiencing severe mental illness.
We provide participants with one-to-one support to assist them to:
- increase their personal capacity and self-reliance – for example by assisting participants to manage their daily lives by providing help with domestic activities, transport, and self care
- access appropriate support services when they need them – such as housing, welfare, health, and employment services
- increase opportunities for them to participate in their community and build social connections.
We deliver the program in Liverpool/Fairfield, Wingecarribee/Macarthur, Armidale and Logan (Queensland), and we are currently establishing services in Mudgee and Inverell.
The Personal Helpers and Mentors Program is flexible, responding to the needs of individuals, and supports the episodic nature of mental illness, and complements clinical care. We focus on building strong long-term trusting relationships that motivate and empower.
