The Benevolent Society’s Volunteer Home Visiting services offer practical support and encouragement to families with young children, supporting healthy parenting practices to enhance children’s wellbeing and development.
Our trained volunteers visit families in their home and can offer assistance with appointments, shopping, finding out what’s in the local community or just enjoying time in the park.
There are a number of reasons why families may be interested to have a volunteer home visitor, including:
- additional stresses around the birth of a new baby or a multiple birth
- feeling isolated from family and friends
- a disability in the family
- difficulty in accessing services and/or getting out of the house.
Parent/s benefit from the practical support provided by the volunteer and also being able to have conversations with an adult who is interested in the well being of their family.
Who can receive our service?
The Volunteer Home Visiting Program is a free service and families can refer themselves or be referred by other service providers.
Volunteer Home Visiting services are available in Eastern Sydney and South West Sydney (through the NSW Families strategy) and Inner West Sydney (funded through the Community Services Grants Program).
About our volunteers
Volunteers attend a preparation course, and receive ongoing support and professional development from the service coordinators. The volunteer visits the family once a week for 6 to 12 months. All volunteers live locally and can offer the benefits of their own experience and local community knowledge.
