The Benevolent Society provides residential care for older people who are no longer able to stay living at home.

The Society provides friendly and respectful care in environments that are as home-like as possible. Each resident’s care is tailored to his or her particular needs, and residents are assisted to maintain their links with family, friends and the community. Staff regularly undergo regular specialised training and have extensive experience in caring for people with dementia.

Nursing home and hostels

The Society's aged care hostels in Allambie Heights, Sans Souci and Bexley cater for people who need help with daily living but not intensive nursing care. Kirby Court hostel in Bexley specialises in caring for people with dementia who need considerable help with day to day activities. The Society's nursing home in Phillip Bay provides intensive nursing care for people with advanced dementia.

They are fully accredited by the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.

Want to know more?

The first step is finding out whether you  – or the older person you are concerned about –  is eligible for high level care (nursing home) or low level (hostel care). This involves having an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team. To contact your local Aged Care Assessment Team, ask your GP or ring Carelink on 1800 052 222.

If the person has already been approved for low care and would like to find out more about The Benevolent Society’s hostels contact the manager of the hostel to make an appointment to visit. Click on the links above for contact details.

The future

The Benevolent Society has recently decided that it could best serve the community by concentrating in future on supporting older people in their own homes, rather than on running nursing homes and hostels. The Society is currently (November 2008) in discussions about the possible transfer of its residential aged care facilties to other suitable aged care organisations. In addition, the Society's nursing home at Phillip Bay and hostel at Allambie will close in 2009.
