Brighter Futures Hunter is working with local families in the region to support them in caring for their children.

Brighter Futures provides services and targeted support for children aged 0-8 years and their families as they address challenges that might otherwise place the children or family at risk.

Services include:

  • case management for families to support them in identifying and reaching their goals
  • professional home visiting to assist parents build parenting skills and develop an understanding of children’s needs and behaviours
  • access to quality children's services
  • parenting groups and one-to-one parenting support
  • practical support to help families meet basic material needs and access services and resources in the community
  • play therapy for children to assist learning and development
  • support to help strengthen links between the family and their community.

We are working with many local agencies to deliver Brighter Futures, including Family Support Services, Indigenous services, Schools as Communities Centres and children’s services. Services are provided across the Hunter region, encompassing Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Denman, Port Stephens, Scone, Merriwa and Murrurundi.

Our team of professionals has extensive experience in the areas of case management, child development and child health. Our team includes a number of Indigenous staff members who are available to work with Indigenous families engaged with the program. Staff are based in Rutherford, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Cessnock, Port Stephens and Singleton. We provide outreach services and can arrange transport for families enrolled in our program if needed.

The Brighter Futures program is voluntary and families must be referred to it by the NSW Department of Community Services, a community agency or individual such as a GP, childcare or community health worker. Brighter Futures is funded by the NSW Department of Community Services.
